Scheduler FAQ
Q: What is the Scheduler?
A: The Scheduler is a personal navigation and calendar generation tool that allows you to easily pick and choose talks / presentations / demonstrations you’re interested in attending while at the Semantic Technology Conference and save this information directly into your calendar. The Scheduler is an application of the MIT Picker tool which is based on Exhibit and Timegrid and has been integrated by Zepheira into a larger data processing / content management system to support personalized conference management.
Q: I don't use iCal. Can I still use the scheduler?
A: Yes. "iCal" in this case is short for "iCalendar". Many calendaring tools allow importing of the iCalendar format (.ics files),
including Microsoft Outlook. You may need to "save as" and then import the .ics
file in some calendaring tools. For a more comprehensive list of programs
that accept iCalendar files, go to: Supported iCalendar programs
Q: How do I save my schedule?
A: After you 'Export to iCal', select 'Save to Disk'. PLEASE NOTE: currently, you cannot save and re-load your schedule into the scheduler in a later session.
Q: What does the Star do?
A: Allows you mark a session as a favorite. There is a "Show My Favorites"
link at the upper-left corner of the Scheduler page.
Q: What do the different colors represent on the schedule grid view?
A: Nothing, really. They are only a way to visually differentiate
adjoining sessions.
Q: My Schedule looks "cramped". The grid overlaps the sessions.
A: The schedule is optimized for a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or
above. Adjusting your screen resolution to these settings should fix the
issue.
Q: I'm not seeing the scheduler at all.
A: It does take a few moments for the scheduler to load because data is being pulled
dynamically for the entire four-day conference program. But this should resolve in under a minute. In extreme cases,
re-booting your system may clear the problem.
Q: What does that little orange scissors icon do?
A: Takes the sessions displayed in the center part of the scheduler view (i.e. whatever data set you have based on facets and sorts) and allows you to extract that data in various formats (RDF/XML, JSON, etc.). Hover over it, and available formats are displayed.
