Level: Case Study

Semantics is seen as the key ingredient in the next phase of the Web infrastructure as well as the next generation of information systems applications. Ontology and Natural Language Processing provides the basis of representing, acquiring and utilizing knowledge. The session will show how ontology-driven techniques enable commercial applications. It addresses the key pain of analyzing high volume of multilingual text collection. The applications are related to financial services and compliance risk analysis, extended CRM with market intelligence, Political Media Analysis and the semantic portal of medtrust. The key areas of the commercial solutions are based on:

  • Automatic Content Extraction from Multilingual-Text Collection
  • Semantic Web Navigation, an agent based implementation
  • Cross lingual digesting and summarization of text
  • Scalable RDF store to query information and analyze hidden relations
  • Semantic Grid approach for natural language processing

In this session, after providing an overview of semantic technologies, we focus on the experience of using different methods for large volume processing, including content extraction, merging, digesting and summarization. In addition, we give examples of commercial applications that have been built using these approaches.

Daniel Hladky, MBA CEO of Ontos International AG Ontos (www.ontos.com) delivers semantic technologies to customers including law enforcement bodies and different industries. Before joining Ontos he worked for SAP and iXOS. This experience allows him to link semantic technologies to business application (commercial applications) needs.

Prof. Dr.Sc. Vladimir Khoroshevsky, Head of Applied Intelligent Systems Division, Computer Centre Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow Head of OntosMiner R&D team at Ontos AG. He has worked extensively in the fields of software design, artificial intelligence and natural language processing. In the latter area his focus is in OWL/RDF and the usage within the Semantic Web. He has many publications in the area of knowledge base design, content extraction with natural language processing and artificial intelligence. He is also a board member of the Russian Association of Artificial Intelligence (RAAI).
