For the last 10 years, the main revenue stream of telecommunications companies has depended on the number of subscribers, but recently increases in revenue and profit have leveled out, and companies are faced with strong competition in the mobile service market. Therefore, telecommunications and mobile service companies are looking for a new 3G-based business model to increase their revenue by expanding service buying power through personalization, context awareness and service adaptation. In this presentation, Saltlux will present a new Semantic-based mobile service model and propose a middleware system for developing a new generation of telecommunications applications and services which have innovative and intelligent functions by applying Ontologies and reasoning technologies. In particular, the presentation will include a social network-based mobile service model, an intelligent home-network service model and several real-world demonstrations.

Tony (Kyung-il) Lee is the CEO of Saltlux, Inc. and a professor at Inha Univ., Korea in Information and Communication Engineering. He is a vice-chairman of the 'Language and Speech Information Industry Consortium' and a director of the 'Korea Association for Semantic Information Technology' (SemTech Korea). He has been a part of the 'Intelligent Service Middleware Project based on Ubiquitous Environment' since June of 2004. This project has developed reasoning and mining technology for a context-aware service by using Semantic Web Technology. He has also developed 'Intelligent and Individual Media Management Technology for Ubiquitous' since May of 2005 which has developed individual media information retrieval technology for various ubiquitous devices. This technology is designed to change media metadata into an Ontology-based RDF and supply the most appropriate media information to each individual user through reasoning. Tony Lee also gave a presentation at ISWC2005 in Galway, Ireland where the topic was "S-Cube: A Semantic-based Middleware System for Context Aware Services". In addition, he gave a speech at ISWC2006 in Athens, GA, USA where the topic was "S-Cube II: Integration of OSGi-based Service and Semantic Web-based Middleware System for Context Aware Services". And he participated in a full-day tutorial in ASWC2006 in Beijing, China where the topic was "Tools and Applications for the Corporate Semantic Web". This year, he is in charge of a co-chair for ISWC2007, Semantic Web in-use track.
