Level: Technical - Introductory
Can you find a single way to prove the power of the semantic web approach in 6 weeks? We did, using existing tools and data sources, and with limited initial knowledge. We were motivated by smart counsel who gave us an approach and the confidence to try. This presentation chronicles our fast-paced journey to the Semantic Web. We decided to leverage our enterprise search experience to make a "smarter" subject matter expertise locator. We needed a narrowly focused, quick-winning, skunkworks approach that cost the company nothing. We needed a rapid prototyping environment. We needed to be able to sell a concept-proof to management. In our presentation, we will discuss:
- Why do this at all?
- How do you focus?
- Who do you need?
- What tools do you need?
- Where is the data?
- How did we connect disparate LDAP, subject matter expertise, project, and best practice data?
- How do you structure, collect, map, and query the data?
- How do you sell a concept proof?
As a Knowledge Architect and IT Fellow for Raytheon, Kevin’s focus is on semantic infrastructure for systems integration, especially for enterprise search. Prior to Raytheon, Kevin was the project manager and database architect for COPLINK, a novel data warehousing project integrating law enforcement databases for intelligence sharing.
Christine joined Intuit in July 2006 as Knowledge Architect. Her goals are to design and deliver a set of systematic processes that allow the right information to be delivered at the moment of truth, thereby creating environments in which knowledge gathering is a positive experience.
