Semantic web services are gaining traction in the industry with SAWSDL about to become a W3C Candiate Recommendation in early 2007. This tutorial aims to show hows SAWSDL can be used with the help of tools and use cases. This tutorial presents technical details, use cases, and tool support for the Semantic Annotation for Web Services (SAWSDL) specification for Web Services. As enterprises move towards service oriented architectures, the issues of data interoperability between the services and large scale reuse are emerging as major concerns. In this tutorial, we will demonstrate how SAWSDL can be used to address both these issues. We will also discuss real world use cases that demonstrate the value of using SAWSDL, and provide an overview of available tools from academic labs (LSDIS, DERI) and industry (IBM). The final part of the tutorial will discuss some innovative solutions using SAWSDL that can lead to more agile and adaptive SOA.
