Sunday, 5/20/2007 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM Level: Business/Strategic
This introduction is aimed at those new to Semantic Technology, although certainly all are welcome.
The primary objective of the talk is to get the participants up to speed enough to get maximum value from the conference. First we will cover why is semantic technology suddenly so topical: what sorts of problems are people applying these approaches and tools to and why.
Then we’ll decompose the technology into its constituent parts: discipline, tools, content and ontologies, infrastructure and standards. Along the way we’ll cover as many of the key concepts as we can such as open world/closed world, description logics, taxonomies v. ontologies and what can be inferred.
Dave McComb is President of Semantic Arts, and
author of Semantics in Business Systems.
